ABOUT MILLICENT

Millicent attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC; where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and went on to obtain a Juris Doctorate degree there as well. She began her law career at Perry and Brown Law Associates in Rocky Mount and Wilson, NC for several years before she opened her own private law practice in Wilson, NC, specializing in family and juvenile law. In 2013, she closed her practice and became the Child Support Attorney for Nash County Department of Social Services. Millicent tried to help everybody who needed her assistance.

Millicent was a dedicated member of the Wilson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a member of The Links, Incorporated and Frederick Douglass High School Alumni

Association. Millicent served on the boards of both My Sister’s House Domestic Abuse Shelter of Nash County and the Wesley Shelter of Wilson. Millicent was the first African American female chairman of the Wilson County Democratic Party. She served on the Board of Trustees for Wilson Community College and on the Board of Directors for Wilson Area Habitat for Humanity and the Wilson County Substance Abuse Coalition. She was an active member of the North Carolina and Wilson County Bar Associations and the Wilson County Substance Abuse Coalition Board.

Millicent was the dedicated wife of Ken Graves and the loving mother of Kennedy and MacKenzie. She was the daughter of Ernest and Bernice Winstead and the sister of Ali and Candance Goins. Millicent lost her valiant fight with breast cancer on March 22, 2020.
